Jean Shore

After graduating from The College of William and Mary in Virginia, Jean Shore spent 20 years working in many different hotels (Hiltons and Hyatts) in Food & Beverage and Accounting.  Then 25 years ago she accepted a position with Hyatt’s corporate office as Director of Hotel Accounting, later supervising the opening (and sadly, closing) of hotels, with each transaction unique and memorable. She eventually started her own business specializing in purchases, sales and management changes for independent hotels that generally needed a bit more direction and guidance than branded hotels.  And that led her to (proudly) open one of the best luxury hotels in the US, the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago. For the past 11 years, Jean has been senior vice president-controller for AJ Capital Partners, a private equity real estate group that develops show-stopping, handcrafted hotels, including two in our own back yard, the Graduate Charlottesville and the Graduate Richmond.  In that capacity, she has helped build and support a real estate portfolio that has grown from inception to serving more than 40 markets.

In addition to a plaque, board members contributed to a gift certificate for a spa day for Nancy.

New Foundation President Alan Stewart presented the board's thanks to Nancy.

 Foundation Committees

The Events Committee’s primary role is to plan, develop strategies and execute a wide variety of events that will not only support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, but will promote the many positive attributes of the LMOA community as well. The events themselves will be born out of suggestions and discussions of the Foundation’s Board as well as suggestions from LMOA residents and community members themselves. These events should keep in mind the many different age groups, as well as the diversity of residents that make up the LMOA community. The Events Committee will maintain a positive working relation with the LMOA administration, LMOA Board and LMOA staff as well as a pool of talented volunteers that will help in bringing the events to a successful outcome. The success of this committee will also be reliant on the positive working relationships with the other LMCF committees and the surrounding Fluvanna business community.

The Grants Committee role is to develop the process for groups and individuals to apply for grants from the Lake Monticello Community Foundation. Once a grant concept is determined and approved by the Board, this committee discusses the criteria for funding, designs the application form to collect information, develops the request for proposal (RFP), reviews the grant application submissions based on the established criteria, and makes grant funding recommendations to the Board. This committee is also responsible for communication with applicants about whether or not their application was selected for funding, and if required, monitors the grant recipients reports.

The Ideas Committee is responsible for generating and tracking funding ideas that benefit the Lake Monticello community. Committee members solicit ideas from neighbors, discuss new ideas, serve as the repository for recommendations and, based on viability of concepts and monies available, bring funding concepts to the Lake Monticello Community Foundation Board for further discussion, refinement and approval.

The Communications Committee’s role is to make all of the surrounding community aware of the activities of the Foundation. It developed and maintains a Facebook page and website, as well as other social media as needed. It’s also responsible, under the direction of the Board and Officers, for developing press releases, flyers, advertisements and other methods of generating attention to and marketing Foundation activities.
